Free Lance Star Letter: Wilderness "Virginity" Lost to Sheetz
2009-07-16
Wilderness' 'virginity' already lost to Sheetz and other businesses
One of the reasons I enjoy living in central Virginia is its ties to American history.
Yet I know the importance of looking toward the future.
There's been a lot of press lately on Wal-Mart's proposing a store near the Wilderness battlefield national park. Detractors will make it sound as though this store is proposed on the grounds where blood was shed; that's not the case. If it were, then Orange County residents have already approved a Sheetz, McDonald's, a bank, and two strip malls on that very ground.
The Wal-Mart store won't even be seen from any public portion of the battlefield.
Wal-Mart in Orange County is a good thing, and I hope supervisors approve the project when it comes time to vote.
